Born from the severed genitals of the Titan Uranus, cast into the sea by his son Cronus, Aphrodite, the Goddess of love and beauty emerged fully grown from the foam of the ocean. She's is often depicted standing on a clam shell emerging gracefully from the sea.

In a fateful contest judged by Paris, a Prince of Troy, Aphrodite was declared the most beautiful of three goddesses, surpassing Hera and Athena. As a reward for his judgment, Aphrodite promised Paris the most beautiful woman in the world—Helen of Sparta.

This promise set in motion the events leading to the ten year Trojan War. The jealousy of Hera and Athena at having not been chosen by Paris, and the abduction of Helen of Sparta by Paris, ultimately brought about the deaths of thousands of Trojans, and finally the sacking of their great city by the Greeks.
