At the edge of the world, in the far west where the sun sets was The Garden of the Hesperides. The garden was home to a majestic tree filled with Golden Apples, said to grant immortality to whoever consumed them. The guardians were the Hesperides - 4 nymphs named Aegle, Erytheia, Aresthusa, and Hesperia. They also shared the garden with Ladon, a snake like dragon who coiled around the sacred tree.
The garden and its golden apples are notable for their roles in mythology, including Heracles' Twelve Labours, Jason and the Argonauts, and even the Trojan War.
My sculpture draws intentional parallels between The Garden of the Hesperides, and the Christian story of Eve in the Garden of Eden, which reflects my own beliefs about the intersection of mythologies and religions.
