Goddess of the Underworld, daughter of Zeus and Demeter. Beautiful Persephone was kidnapped by Hades, and tricked in to eating the seeds of a pomegranate, binding her to the underworld forever. In response to her abduction, her mother, Demeter proposed a compromise to Zeus, where Persephone would spend six months above ground, and six months in the underworld with Hades.
Her return to her mother each year brings an end to Demeter's grief, and with it comes the warmth of Spring and Summer, and an end to Demeter's period of wintery sorrow.
